Resolving...

New Years Resolutions are a funny thing. I can't remember ever sticking to one, ever. Yet, each year I continue making them, and I'm just as motivated as ever to change my life. I've been thinking about my resolution for some time now - probably since around October. Some time in November I settled on the generic "Be Good To Myself." I felt that it encompassed all my goals for the year in terms of physical appearance. But then I had to change it to "Be Good To Myself AND My Family."

Still too generic. And still bothering me because I don't want to do something that isn't going to work. So, this year we are going to take a slightly different approach. Instead of New Year's Resolutions, I'm setting goals for 2010. While some of these may seem superficial, they are important to me.

Goal: Physical Improvement
-Start Weight Watchers on Jan 1 and stick to it until I reach my goal weight of 125
- Unlet myself go? Invest in the upkeep of my hair, makeup, nails and clothing
- Exercise. Everyday (unless I'm throwing up or bleeding)

Goal: Love my Family
There are so many ways to do this - I think taking time to write the sweet little love notes I used to give to Josh, and surprising him with random sweet little gifts are one way. Perhaps spending more time on the floor playing with Mikey instead of watching him play from afar. Cooking my family nourishing meals. Essentially, I want to put my family at the top of my list of priorities, and make sure they feel that they are the most important part of my life.

Goal: Work towards becoming a "SAHM" (Stay at Home Mom)
The first part of this involves paying CASH for a reliable vehicle so we are free from car payments. The second part involves becoming knocked up with child 2, and not returning to work from maternity leave. Our goal is early 2011! After that, we can keep growing our family without worrying about the costs of daycare because it won't be an issue.

And that is pretty much it. Oh - there are other things - not so major things. I'd love to learn how to knit/sew/quilt. I want to keep on improving on my kitchen skills. I'd like to watch a little less TV and read a few more books.

What is everyone else resolving to do?

  1. Your goals and mine kind of match, except the new baby part :) I'm determined to continue to use my day planner each day this year instead of when I'm only stressed out. That should help me keep on top of things. Knitting and sewing are a lot of fun, especially when you have someone to knit/sew for :) And they're both very easy to learn. Knitting would be a bit cheaper to start on.

  2. I have a few goals this year. One is to start Round 2 of my diet/exercise/lose weight plan. I'm tall, so 150 is my new goal. And then, I guess it would be to just continue to get my finances in order. Fun post! Good to hear from you. I'd love to hear all the ups and downs along the way, so don't hesitate to write about them.

  3. Wow, I wasn't going to make any resolutions, but now it looks like I'm making a resolution to be more like Kerith!! lol
On a serious note, I stopped making resolutions a few years back, too many disappointments along the way, mostly in myself. I just wish to be resolute in all decisions and be the best person I can be daily to myself, my family, to friends, to strangers. That's It! Happy 2010. Bring. It. On.

  4. Thanks for stopping by everyone, and sorry I've been MIA. I blew my computer up and have been making the transition from a Windows OS to a Linux based OS called Ubuntu! Almost back up and running and I will be blogging and visiting you all!
